Kommeno

Kommeno is a small peninsula at the eastern end of central Corfu located between Gouvia and Dassia. Its small beach has turquoise waters and a golden sandy beach and has been awarded with a blue flag. A New Village

In the earlier years in Kommeno, no village was developed although there were a few fishermen’s and farmers’ houses in the area. The development of this small peninsula is identical to the development of tourism in the whole of Corfu. As early as the 1970s, luxurious villas began to spring up in Kommeno, and over the years a distinct network of houses has been created that refers to a different, elegant, and modern village synonymous with a unique tourist resort. Nowadays, luxury accommodation and the neighboring hotels are aimed at people who choose the area for a quiet relaxing holiday with an emphasis on comfort.

Three in one

The picturesque bay formed on the south side is so closed that it gives the impression of a lagoon, while the calm waters allow beautiful ducks and geese to swim carefree and enjoy the coolness.

A church by the seaside

Most Corfiots know this unique and historic church, but many visitors are unaware of it. The church of Hypapanti is a historical monument that has been standing on the seashore since the 18th century. This small church was built during Venetian rule and more specifically in 1713 by Daniel Kobitsis. The stairs and the altar stone are made of traditional Corfiot stone and have been successfully preserved until today. Furthermore, the iconostasis is carved and painted by the nuns of the monastery of Pantokrator of Agros. The church is a living example of the religious faith of the Corfiots and it is worth walking the 60-metre-long path that connects it to the peninsula to visit this idyllic location.
